|About the Artist|
|Barry Sullivan grew up in Rochester, New York. He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology as an Illustration and Design major before transferring to the Kansas City Art Institute to study Painting and Lithography. After receiving his BFA from KCAI in 1974, he moved to St. Louis, MO to share a studio with a fellow painting graduate from Kansas City.
He received a graduate Fellowship from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to study lithography and left after one year of study to run his own workshop painting pictorial billboards, murals, and architectural finishes.
Although he describes the experience in the commercial image and specialty painting business as invaluable in terms of gaining knowledge of techniques of design and execution, he became dissatisfied with the limited depth of expression possible in those venues. He entered the graduate painting program at Fontbonne University where he received his MFA in 2005. He now maintains his studio in St. Louis, devoting himself to the Fine Art of painting.
